Le cinéaste Vincent Blais-Shiokawa a toujours été tiraillé par son héritage. Élevé dans les prairies canadiennes par un père japonais et une mère québécoise, il a marqué son indépendance en s’écartant de la culture de son père.
Mais maintenant, un voyage au Japon pour rendre visite à une grande-tante mourante — son dernier lien familial au pays — l’obligera à affronter son malaise identitaire. Et de répondre, une fois pour toutes, à la question : « Peut-on vivre en paix, lorsqu’on est Hafu ? »
Filmmaker Vincent Blais-Shiokawa has always struggled with his heritage. Raised in the Canadian prairies by a Japanese father and a Québécois mother, he asserted his independence by distancing himself from his father's culture.
But now, a trip to Japan to visit an elderly great-aunt—his last familial tie to the country—will force him to confront his identity crisis. And to answer, once and for all: “Can a Hafu ever live in peace?”
